Manchester MEN Arena, England
9th May 2006

I took my dad to see Eric Clapton at the M.E.N. Arena on May 9th 2006. I have to say even though it was my dad who is a big fan of Eric I really enjoyed it. There was not a single part of it that I didn't enjoy. My dad always wanted to see him concert and I'm glad he did because it was his best night out ever. I just hope in the future I could take him to see him again for both our enjoyment and to see him smile as he did on that night.

Blues Guitarist Robert Cray opened for Clapton at Manchester. Robert had previously performed with old Slowhand at such shows as the Blues Nights at The Royal Albert Hall London. A very underrated player who performed as part of a three piece.

Of course we where there to see Eric Clapton and his band. Together with the now infamous Signature Clapton Stat Eric did not disappoint. Fellow guitarist note this time its Fender(R) Noiseless Pickups on board. Eric is back on black custom shop models.

Music wise its a mix of old and new songs from a vast back catalogue and the new CD "Going Home" On backing guitars we had Doyle Bramble II and Derek Trucks. Derek is the new slide player in the Allman Brothers Band. Like Duane Allman Derek pushes Clapton to the limits with his Slide playing all on a red model Gibson SG.

We had songs from Layla and Other Love Songs (Derek And The Dominoes) Such as "Take Me I'm Yours" and "Layla." Tracks from Blind Faith's only album. Also the vast solo catalogue.

Highlights for me: "Layla", "Running On Faith", "Pretending", "Wonderful Tonight", "I Shot The Sheriff"

Lots of extended guitar dual solos during the night We even had the EC Martins out for the acoustic set and the odd Robert Johnson number.

A fantastic night. Bought the T Shirt, Program and a set of EC Embossed plectrum. No they don't make you play like Clapton.

Here's to the next show. Must save up and get a Clapton Strat soon.
