This review is probably a little biased as I was actually there and up until I got this bootleg only had memories of the concert. So I'm reviewing this through the rose coloured glasses of nostalgia! Because it was recorded in the 80's it's good too hear some tracks that don't normally get an airing on too many authorised recordings let alone bootlegs. It's quite amusing to hear EC introduce 'new songs' that I've grown up with!
The recording isn't up to the standard of most current bootlegs with it being a tad 'muddy' and 'tinny' in parts.
'Motherless Children' sounds even more up tempo that the studio recording. 'Same Old Blues' has a great sly groove that just creeps along, giving EC plenty of space for some fiery guitar lines. 'She's Waiting - Actually seems a little slower than normal, but still has a nice staccato styled solo, although I'm not too sure about the keyboard sounds, (THAT has dated!). 'Slippin' Out' - EC takes a back seat handing over vocal duties to the back up singers. Both have great voices a makes a surprising refreshing break in the proceedings allowing EC to concentrate on enjoying the performance. Finishing off the CD is the medley 'Who's Lovin' You' / Have You Ever Loved A Woman / Ramblin' On My Mind '- EC leads the band through the various incarnations of each song calling out the chord changes as he goes, which always amazes me! This is something that he seemed to do a bit of in some of the 70's recording that I have.
